On December 24, 1979, the Soviet Union began deploying their troops in Afghanistan. Until February 15, 1989, when the last of the Soviet troops left, there have been mass accounts of war crimes in the Middle Eastern country. Thousands of innocent Afghan civilians were killed, tortured, and forced into other horrors.
